Bio | Kelly Upcott ND
The primary goal of naturopathic treatment is to address the cause of illness, rather than simply treatment or suppression of symptoms. Focusing on prevention and the use of natural substances and treatments, naturopathic doctors (NDs) stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. Dr. Upcott views her role as a teacher as important as her role as a Doctor.
A graduate of the University of Windsor’s Bachelor of Science program and the four-year naturopathic program at The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Dr. Upcott has been in practice since 2003.
Combining modern science and traditional healing practices, Dr. Upcott uses a combination of nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, and lifestyle counseling. Unlike traditional medicine, the patient is seen as a whole person. The Naturopathic Doctor takes physical, mental, and emotional dimensions into account when diagnosing and developing a treatment plan. After an extensive health history each patient receives an individualized treatment plan.
Dr. Upcott particularly enjoys working with families and has a special interest in chronic inflammatory conditions, digestive disorders and women’s health issues. In order to facilitate greater access to the community, Dr. Upcott works from two multidisciplinary clinics both offering a team of chiropractors and registered massage therapists. Programs and services offered at these Wellness Centers are based on natural therapies with a team approach, incorporating health education, fitness, stress management, and nutritional counselling.
“As a team, we encourage our patients to achieve the highest possible levels of health and uncover the underlying cause of their problems, instead of suppressing them with medicine."
"As a Naturopathic Doctor my goal is address the root cause of your health concerns, rather than simply treating or suppressing your symptoms. Only then do I believe can you really achieve cure. Now more than ever, naturopathic doctors are poised to play a significant role in addressing some of the critical issues facing our health care system in Ontario, including the shortage of family physicians. I believe our bodies are resilient and have the natural ability to heal. As a naturopathic doctor I will help your body facilitate this healing process."
